Victorian Victory: 217 Jackson Street Magnolia, NJ
Most people think that the suburbs of New Jersey are filled with homes that lack character and the only way you can find a home of character is if you go into the city or spend a lot of money in coveted communities such as Haddonfield or Moorestown. However, if you have an eye for seeing past the obvious and have a vision for restoration, then you will be able to find the hidden gem. And that’s exactly what my childhood friend and sorority sister, Tatia Bailey did when she stumbled upon 217 Jackson Street in Magnolia, NJ.
When Tatia called me to come out and take a look at her newest venture, I was excited to take a peek into the past! I met Tatia at 217 Jackson Street and while walking through; I could see there was lot to do, with the ceilings almost caving in and the need to put in a new HVAC system to say the least. But just as much work that there was to do, I could see the potential of the home. I could see that this house had its original trim work with gorgeous baseboard and shutters! Most impressive were the mahogany doors that were equipped with the original crystal knobs!
The house built in 1921, was indeed a showstopper and I could envision, mixing metals, textures, and patterns in this space. My goal for staging would be to bring out the golden hues from the mahogany finishes. Getting 217 Jackson Avenue together was not an easy task, unlike the TV packaged remodel shows; Tatia had her fair share of contractor drama. However, being the ultimate professional and clear focused project manger, she got through the renovation and we were ready to stage
The house was staged to perfection, and on the first day of open house the realtor was impressed that 30 people came to see the home. After 3 days of showing the house, an offer was made, and it was high above the asking price!
