A Sweet Retreat: 290 Glenwood Avenue Burlington, NJ
Tracy Fortune was my best friend. We lived 3 doors down from each other and we had so much fun growing up together. We loved riding our bikes, playing in the snow, and listening to music. Tracy’s dad, Mr. Fortune was a talented carpenter. He taught his daughters how to build and fix things. Tracy is an artist. She loved to draw and to create fashions for her dolls. Although she grew up to be a nurse, her love of design and the skills her dad taught her merged itself into her becoming an investor and renovating homes. Tracy heard that I was staging. She asked me to look at, in her words, her tiny little house that she had been working on.
Entering into 290 Glenwood, I couldn’t help but to say this is a sweet retreat. Tracy had knocked down walls to update this 1935 year old gem into an open concept dream that could easily be a first house or a retirement home.
Light bamboo floors, antique doorknobs, and glass tile work were just some of the beautiful aspects of this humble abode. Immediately, I envisioned cream, gold, and vibrant colors of yellow in this space. The end result was majestic! The house was on the market for 40 days and was sold to a first time homebuyer. What sold the buyer was the way the home was decorated. To quote her, “it was so cute and I could just see myself living there.”
